When asked about online gaming arcades, a lot of candidates come to mind by now. But there’s probably one provider that everyone in Germany knows, and that’s Mr. Green. Even if you’ve never signed up for online gambling yourself, the commercial with the catchy jingle “Hey Mister, Mister Green” will be familiar to you.
Mr Green focuses quite heavily on its mascot, the gentleman in the green suit. Equipped with a green bowler hat and green umbrella/stick to lean on casually. The bowler hat is always pulled nicely into his face, because according to his own statement, Mr. Green is shy. But that he is a true gentleman who insists on politeness, respect, integrity and a sense of responsibility should not be in doubt at any time.
Whether this is all just lip service, or whether Mr Green actually follows through with this philosophy, is what we found out for our test. And we didn’t limit ourselves to a short flirt with Mr Green, but moved in with him, so to speak. That’s the only way to find out whether this gentleman is serious or whether it’s more of a one-night stand.
General information about mr.green Casino
Everything fits together here. Mr Green belonged until the beginning of 2019 to the Ltd of the same name and this in turn was owned by the Swedish company Mr Green & Co AB. That may not mean anything to you, but it is still a good sign. The group had also been listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange since 2016.
And what may sound a bit incestuous here is a good sign of structure and respectability. From the very top to the actual brand, the gambling website Mr Green, the makers have dedicated themselves completely to the concept, so that it is consistently pulled through and appears quite homogeneous in the end.
When you’re this big, you can hardly afford any missteps and you always have to be a gentleman, especially when it comes to licenses and respectability. Here, Mr Green can also come up trumps with the two most renowned licenses. British players can enjoy themselves without worries thanks to a license from the British Gambling Commission UKGC, while players in the rest of the EU should show quite relaxed thanks to a Maltese gambling license from the MGA.
Why we write in the past tense above? Well, at the beginning of 2019, Mr Green was bought out by William Hill. Players from Germany or Austria may not be told that much. But WH is one of the biggest bookmakers in the world. In the motherland of sports betting, England, there is probably hardly a city center where you can’t find a William Hill store. Since they have a lot of experience in sports betting, but were rather average when it came to slots, it made sense to buy them. After all, Mr Green is one of the most innovative online gaming companies in the world.
Overwhelmed by awards – rightly so?
It is not for nothing that Mr Green has won a lot of awards in the past years, which are also displayed in the “About Us” section of the website. These include Gaming Awards wins for the gambling provider of the year, responsible gaming awards, and also an award for best mobile provider.
And with that reassuring news, let’s jump right into our much more in-depth review. During our visit to Mr Green, we took a close look at everything from the bonus offers, to the sign-up and verification process, to the games, the website, the customer service, and the payment methods.
Of course, we also let other review portals have their say, because after all, hundreds of eyes see more than the few we have, and so you will get an all-round panoramic view of all the important details about Mr Green in our test.
The Mr Green slots bonus
Anyone who signs up for a new account at the well-known Mr Green naturally expects a welcome package. Mr Green knows this, of course, and also has something on offer. But can the welcome offer keep up with other gambling websites, or is Mr Green rather resting on laurels of past days here?
We took a look at the offers from the welcome bonus to the loyalty offers and regular promotions and tell you what’s up for grabs.
The Mr Green welcome bonus
Once you’ve signed up with Mr Green in a few straightforward steps, you can decide when you make your first deposit whether you want to take advantage of a welcome bonus or continue without one, which is an option (especially if you don’t want to deal with pesky turnover requirements).
Fancy a welcome offer? Perfect, because here you’ll be presented with three different bonuses to choose from.
First of all, there is the regular welcome bonus. This works in four steps and can bring you up to €100 and 200 free spins.
First, you have to make a deposit of at least €20, which will not only be doubled (up to a value of €100), but you will also get 100 free spins in Book of Dead on top of that. Over the next five days, you can then grab 20 more free spins for various slots.
An extra bonus for friends of or sports betting
Finally, the green gentleman also has something up his sleeve for sports fans, because Mr Green offers an all-round service including sports betting. So if you want to use your first deposit to place sports bets, Mr Green doesn’t put any obstacles in your way. You can have your first deposit doubled again between €20 and €100.
Now these are not bonus offers that blow us away, but they are easy to understand and there is something for every type of player.
Offers in your inbox – newsletters and SMS offers
Mr Green already knows how to put out some neat bait. If you sign up and don’t play at all and leave your welcome bonus, the gentleman will do his best to seduce you.
You can expect weekly SMS and newsletters (if you allow this in the advertising settings), in which your welcome bonus is to be made a little more palatable. For example, it can happen that a cherry on the cake in the form of 25 additional free spins is shoved under your nose, via SMS AND newsletter (a bit intrusive).
Otherwise, Mr Green is less aggressive than other providers. You will be regularly kept up to date with newsletters and SMS, but this happens about once or twice a week and also depends a bit on your gaming behavior.
The newsletters themselves are clearly designed and worded. Sometimes they come across as a bit too “market shouty”. We would have liked to see a little more creativity and subtlety. But in the end, of course, you should be encouraged to accept the corresponding offer. So we find it a little hard to blame the green man for his actions.
Other promotions – seasons determine the offers
In addition to the welcome bonus, Mr Green naturally also wants to keep existing customers happy. For this purpose, there are regular offers, such as daily rewards and tournaments, in which there are free spins to be won non-stop.
Other big promotions, such as raffles, tournaments with big total prizes and random prizes are usually framed thematically. For example, in the fall and winter, promotions take place that have Thanksgiving, Halloween or Christmas as their theme. In spring and summer, the focus is more on cruises, beach visits and May dances.
The operators definitely have their finger on the pulse here, but it’s also just really predictable. Basically, it’s the same raffles, tournaments and prize giveaways, just with a different packaging.
It’s no exception here, however, that the gentleman in green is enticing with five-figure total prizes. So participating in some of the promotions can be well worth it. Just when it should be something other than the normal slots and table games.
The Green Club – where loyalty pays off
Instead of a real VIP program, Mr Green invites every player who dares to join the Green Club. There, you can complete set challenges in order to secure various rewards and trophies.
Besides trophies and free spins or other rewards, you can also earn Emerald Coins in these challenges. These, in turn, can be exchanged for other bonuses or rewards in the Emerald Boutique. The good thing about the Emerald Coins is that you can collect them for a long time. Because they expire only 18 months after you have earned them.
In principle, the Green Club works like a normal loyalty program. Particularly diligent players can earn additional rewards.
The fine print – these are the bonus conditions you should keep in mind
Like everywhere else, you have to fulfill some conditions when claiming a bonus at Mr Green. First of all, you should keep in mind that all bonuses you trigger with a deposit must be wagered within 30 days. Free spins and no deposit bonuses, on the other hand, are only valid for 7 days.
In addition, withdrawals from the latter are limited to a measly €100 even if the turnover requirements are met. By the way, these turnover requirements are 35x. So if you grab a €100 bonus, you’ll have to wager €3,500 on the slots before your bonus money is turned into real money and you can cash out any winnings.
That’s not unusual, but it’s not particularly generous either. And to fulfill such conditions, you need quite a bit of luck. Also, don’t forget that there is of course a long list of games that you are not allowed to play if you want to wager a bonus.
To Mr Green’s credit, these games are blocked anyway. So if you try to open it while you are wagering a bonus, you will not succeed in playing. This is quite handy because you don’t have to memorize the whole list or consult it all the time. We have had much worse experiences with other providers.
Which games contribute to the wagering requirements?
Then, of course, there are once again differences in the contributions that individual games make to the wagering requirements. Almost all slots count for 100%.
You can only place sports bets if you use a specific sports betting bonus and then the odds have to be at least 1.80.
Overall, Mr Green doesn’t stand out negatively from the competition when it comes to bonus terms, but doesn’t stand out positively either. They simply use the typical terms and conditions that have been driving players up the wall for years. You think a bonus can give you an advantage and then something like this.
The game offer at Mr Green
Such an old hand as Mr Green naturally works together with a whole range of software providers. And so you also get a huge range of slot machines here. The special thing about Mr Green Gentleman is that the games lobby also offers a whole range of exclusive games. These are slots that you can’t play anywhere else.
Of course, we also took a look at what Mr Green has to offer in terms of games overall.
The heart of every casino – the slot machines
When it comes to slots, you really are spoiled for choice. Because Mr Green has pretty much every software provider on offer that the market has to offer. However, you will have problems to see which ones exactly. The games are hardly subdivided and there is no filter option. You have to make do with a search bar and some categories.
This is an opportunity that Mr Green has not taken advantage of. The selection could have been made much more user-friendly here. But we will gripe about this shortcoming in more detail later. At this point, we should first of all focus purely on the game selection, which is indeed unparalleled.
The big names of the industry are of course there, as well as smaller studios that get a great platform. Slots from NetEnt, Yggdrasil, Play’n Go and Microgaming can be found in the portfolio, as well as Red Tiger, Pragmatic Play and Thunderkick.
So of course you’ll find luminaries like Starburst, Book of Dead and Vikings go Wild (and Berzerk and to Hell). But there are also a few lesser-known slots to discover, such as Bork the Berzerker and Aladdin and the Sorcerer.
The exclusive Mr Green slots consist of Vegas Adventures by Pragmatic Play, Lucky Mr Green by Red Tiger and Finding Mr Green by Green Jade Games. None of the three slots are the best in terms of innovation or excitement – but hey, you can only play them here!
Sporty – The betting area
That gambling providers unite all areas of gambling under one roof is not that common anymore. That’s why we don’t want to leave the sports betting area at Mr Green unmentioned.
At Mr Green, you can bet on over 20 sports and on events in politics and society. For example, you can predict the results of the next elections in the EU, Germany or the USA.
But let’s stay sporty. No matter what sport your heart beats for, you can bet on it here. Bets in various soccer leagues are just as possible as bets on golf or cycling races.
You can place live bets, combined bets and various long-term bets. So if you ever get fed up with slots, the sports betting section could offer a welcome change. By the way, the odds are excellent. With the competition, we usually only find complete packages from third-party providers. These only offer a few markets with average odds at best. Since Mr Green belongs to William Hill, you benefit from decades of experience with sports betting here. Especially for English soccer, you will find very good odds.
We almost started to nag a bit, but now we come to the area of our review where our whining about missing filters really belongs.
We took a look at how we navigated our way around Mr Green’s website and how we found our way around. This, of course, includes our experiences with the customer service, the payment methods and our feeling of security.
The navigation – where was that again?
Finally, I can throw up about the games list! Well, not the selection itself, but the arrangement. How can it be that a four-digit number of slots is just slapped on the page with almost no subdivision? Do you want my scrolling finger to fall off?
They only filtering options are for popular games, new games and slots. The dull exclusive games get their own category, even though there are only two handfuls, but you are supposed to scroll through the slots category with hundreds of games? Is it really too much to ask nowadays that you can at least sort games by manufacturer? That’s all we ask, but it’s really confusing.
It’s especially annoying because other areas of the site are nice and easy to navigate. In the side menu you can quickly find your way from tournaments to the individual gambling areas to the offers and customer service.
You can also easily access your account with all the important info in the upper right area. In principle, the website design is also absolutely convincing – very green and true to the brand. A total failure like the area for the slots is all the more sour.
The blog of the mr.green casino
Relatively prominently placed in the page navigation and also in the footer, you will find a link to the blog. Once clicked, you can read through Mr Green’s travel diary and other informative posts related to gambling.
However, you will quickly notice that most of the posts are from 2016 to 2018 and even the most recent post is several months old. We can’t say whether the blog will be updated any further. It’s actually a shame that such a small feature is apparently treated so stepmotherly in the meantime.
With exciting blog contributions you can still stand out a little from the crowd and the old posts were really worth reading even in German.
The customer service
Our experiences with the customer service, especially the German-speaking were quite positive. While I don’t think in a million years that the support person who answered my questions was really named Klaus, he/she was friendly and helpful. So I can overlook the clichéd naming.
I also found it particularly pleasant that in the live chat at least they didn’t just give template answers right from the start. I really had the feeling of talking to another person. And as sad as that is, it’s far from self-evident.
You can reach the customer service around the clock in the live chat. But there is also a relatively comprehensive section for frequently asked questions. And if you don’t find an answer there either, you can still get rid of your question via a contact form.
With this, Mr Green covers the usual contact options and in our experience, the customer service also does a good job. Even on weekends, a member of staff was quickly available in the live chat.
The payment methods
Deposits are possible from as little as €10 and you can use various methods for this. The exact methods depend a bit on your country. In Germany you can use credit cards, Sofortüberweisung, Giropay, Neteller, Skrill and Paysafecard.
For Paysafecard there is a deposit fee of 3.9% and you can’t use this method for withdrawals either. This is not because of Mr Green, but simply because Paysafecard is a prepaid voucher that is not tied to a person or an account.
On all other methods you can also request withdrawals, but annoyingly only from a minimum amount of €30. I would have understood if you could deposit €10 but only withdraw €20, but €30 can be a bit steep for players who like to play with small amounts.
Withdrawals are processed really quickly after you have verified yourself and customers report almost instantaneous withdrawals up to 48 hours, which is still bearable.
Mr Green has been around for so long now that it wasn’t founded in a time when mobile websites were a given. Nevertheless, the old green man has moved with the times and offers a mobile website that you can access conveniently in your mobile browser.
You don’t have to download an app and you can use all the important things, like deposits and withdrawals and of course the games, on the go. You can even participate in tournaments.
The game selection is no less cluttered than on desktop, but that would be nice if the mobile app was even better. We’ll settle for the fact that the mobile site offers the same comfort and almost all the features of the desktop site, so you can comfortably play a round on the sofa or at the bus stop.
All around care – safe and responsible
In addition to the aforementioned licenses from the UK and Malta, Mr Green also voluntarily shows itself to be particularly caring and responsible. Communication between you and the gambling website is not only encrypted, but Mr Green has also launched the so-called Green Gaming Initiative.
This is designed to help you keep your gambling behavior under control at all times. You can sign up for Green Gaming and have your gaming behavior analyzed. Based on this analysis, your risk factor when gambling is revealed to you and the provider recommends measures such as limits and game interruptions.
In the meantime, you can set limits anywhere, as this is specified by the licensors. However, the fact that your gaming behavior is analyzed and specific measures are recommended is new. And there we have to shake Mr Green’s hand, because that already shows a certain degree of social responsibility.
Experiences with Mr Green
We are now almost at the end of our evaluation and you should already be a lot smarter about the green gentleman than at the beginning of our test. But before we give you our final conclusion, we want to let some other review portals have their say, because sometimes another tester sees more than you do.
What do the others say? Experiences with Mr Green at AskGamblers, Trustpilot, GambleJoe and CasXXXmeister
Mr Green is such an overwhelming force in the gambling market that of course everyone and their mother has something to say about it. But we like to listen and don’t want to deprive you of both negative and positive feedback.
At AskGamblers, there are a whopping 171 player reviews on Mr Green and with an average star rating of 5.7 out of 10 stars, you can’t really be satisfied. On the negative side, the sometimes confusing website and problems with payouts are mentioned above all. Whereby the unhappy players who have been denied payouts or have problems with customer service also pull down the rating quite a bit.
A lot of other players praise the great game selection, the friendly and responsive customer service and the Green Gaming initiative.
On Trustpilot, the result looks even more dismal, with 79% of the 42 reviewing players giving it an unsatisfactory rating. The majority of the bad reviews come from the Nordic region and mainly complain about losses or simply throw the word “scam” into the room. Of course, this is a bit difficult if the story behind it is not explained, because this does not coincide with our experience.
At GambleJoe, players are a bit more conciliatory towards Mr Green, because here they earn three and a half stars out of a possible five after all. Here, in turn, particularly fast payouts are now praised, which contradicts the experiences on AskGamblers to some extent. But we have also found that there are rather no problems if you provide all the necessary documentation.
Fast payouts are also the consensus at CasXXXmeister, so the majority of users have probably had rather good experiences in this area.
That’s what we say! Our conclusion
We have certainly not been particularly brief and therefore want to make up for it now in the conclusion. Overall, we can absolutely understand the high reputation that Mr Green enjoys in gambling circles.
And even if the confusion of the game selection really pissed us off, that certainly doesn’t make for a bad website. Because on the whole, Mr Green does a lot of things right. They make an effort to keep their own players responsible and give them the right tools to accomplish that.
The promotions are varied and the content on the German site is even really inventive at times. We also can’t complain about the game selection itself.
We would definitely go on a second date with Mr Green. Our experience shows that not all gambling providers treat you that well.
